A real question
Do any of you listen to specific public radio programs? What are they? Why are they good? Which ones do you think are bad?
Also podcasts?

Afropop Worldwide is just delightful. It's usually music I've never heard of, and it always grounds the music in interesting cultural, political, and historical contexts. Also, Georges Collinet just has like the best voice, he always sounds so michievious and friendly and not-at-all pretentious.
I LOVE AFROPOP WORLDWIDE.
Aside from the shows that have already been listed (many of which are my personal favorites), you should check out:
Love + Radio is, I think, the best podcast/independently produced radio show to have come out in the past decade. It's beautiful and weird.
The Bugle (John Oliver and Andy Saltzman do weekly news, hilariously)
Improv4Humans (Matt Besser's show)
Also, this is a great website for one-off independent radio pieces.
This is great and has a lot of listings that I've included in a story to come this or next week!
oh cool, looking forward to it
I listen to KUOW in Seattle. I have noticed of late that the general style has changed, a younger guard coming in, and making things more conversational, with new inflections that are more casual. Syllables being swallowed. I am not sure how I feel about this, though I am not averse to change. I guess I just miss a voice I became accustomed to, that seemed more effortless while being more formal. Does anyone else notice this in their public radio news?
What kinds of stories do they tell that you like to hear? Why public radio and not just traditional news delivery?
I listen to NPR because I prefer digested news, investigative stuff rather than what I call "the madness of the moment." Hence, my New Yorker addiction. I find there's so much noise around that I get the momentary stuff by osmosis, I don't have to seek it out.
NPR isn't traditional news delivery? What have I been listening to for the last 30+ years?
That was poor phrasing! I meant in print or online.
I'll stick with NPR online for reading, as well as over the air.
i don't. sorry dayna.
That's okay! Thanks for chiming in, Leah.
